It’s pointless to dwell on human rights violations in a country that’s effectively a shadow colony under Western influence. Recently, a Western-backed candidate (particularly supported by the EU) was shot in the head, and the shooter fled the country. In response, the government arrested his family members—his brother, girlfriend, and wife—accusing them of helping him.
His wife supposedly aided him by marrying him, cooking for him, and being intimate with him every day. His girlfriend helped by enabling him to cheat on his wife. And his brother assisted by engaging in physical activities and playing with him during childhood, which apparently made him strong enough to commit the shooting. Even mother is charged for hiding a shooter in her womb for 9 months before his birth. Other side father and brother-in-law are charged for help destroying evidences which can be also done by a shooter on the run. All of their bank accounts been seized before any of these findings. Which looks like a master-plan to extinct a whole family than actual justice.
The court even granted police permission to question these “alternative suspects” for 5 to 7 days—a process that, for non-VIP cases, mostly involves torture to force confessions. For female detainees, it often includes sexual abuse as well.
Ever since the Awami League government fled the country, our law enforcement agencies have rarely gotten the chance to interrogate movie stars or models. So, this case is better than nothing for them.
In the end, it’s a waste of words to talk about human rights abuses in a nation shadow-occupied by Western colonial rulers. Western human rights standards simply don’t apply to these types of colonies. Even Muhammad Yunus has admitted in multiple speeches that “nothing will happen” by complaining to the UN or other human rights organizations.
And let’s not forget: the EU’s election monitoring missions only show up to ensure their preferred candidates win with 101% of the votes.
